Shawn and Daphne Elopement

Shawn & Daphne

Daphne and Shawn came all the way from Hong Kong to have their wedding day in our beautiful state. Both are great lovers of adventure and the outdoors so what better way to celebrate their eternal vows then to have their wedding on a glacier!

When Daphne contacted me about filming their Alaskan elopement I could not have been more excited. She told me they were planning to get married and then go on a ten-day motorcycle tour all over the state of Alaska. A couple after my own heart! This was going to be fun!

The day could not have been more beautiful! It’s like Alaska was showing off for this this wonderful couple. I loved Daphne’s dress, it’s elegant lace and high neck line accented her beautiful features. And for a woman who claims she rarely wears dresses and never wears makeup she sure rocked those red stilettos! Absolutely gorgeous!

Before jumping on a helicopter the couple opted to do portraits Erica Rose at Hatchers Pass and I was happy to tag along. Watching them hop around on boulders, smiling from ear to ear in the sunshine was magical. I loved that Shawn carried her stilettos for her, what a gentleman.

Next we took in some beautiful scenery at a lovely river bend, and then we were off to Knik River Lodge to get the real adventure started.

Excitement rose as the hum of the helicopter approached. The scenic ride out to the glacier was breathtaking. Shawn and Daphne chatted with the pilot as they took in the lush green mountains, glacier fed waterfalls, and of course the epic Knik Glacier itself.

Once on the glacier, we were all in awe of our surroundings. There’s nothing like standing on a massive, moving piece of stunning creation to set the tone for a truly spiritual ceremony.

Pastor David Dahms started off by taking a moment of quiet, to take in the magnificent setting. The ceremony was beautiful and heart felt, tears fell and there was something incredibly intimate and profound about the three of them standing alone, surrounded by endless ice and stunning mountains. I have never seen a church more beautifully decorated.

After the vows, the seal of a kiss, and the wiping away of tears it was time to play!

Daphne and Shawn did some exploring, hopping glacial streams, drinking pristine water, toasting with glacier chilled champagne, I even convinced them to have their first dance on the icy shore of a lovely blue glacier lake. Then it was time for them to get rid of the rest of us and head back to the Lodge and enjoy the rest of the evening as married couple. What an amazing day!

Thank you Daphne and Shawn for allowing me to be a part of this incredible journey. Congratulations and may you have many more happy adventures to come!

Rob & Leif Homer Wedding

Rob & Leif

July 8th, 2017

Rob and Leif are one of those couples that balance one another perfectly.  Leif has a stoic thoughtfulness and quite smile, while Rob has a generous laugh, quick wit and gregarious nature. I can see why so many loved ones came all the way across the country to be with them on their wedding day.  And what a day it was!  It was full of emotion, laughter, great food and stellar dance moves!

Their wedding theme was a full moon, symbolizing new beginnings.  I met with each groom on the morning of the big day.  Each read a letter written by his fiancé, and each were filled with emotion.  As I watched them both fight back tears, I sensed that the day was not only about beginning their life as a married couple.  For them it represented much more then that.  They spoke about their sense of place in this world, and a desire to heal and live more confident and freer then before. Stronger together. The day was not only about them but about the world they have built for themselves as a couple, and the people and love ones who live in it.  A new beginning for all.

The setting was breathtaking.  Leif and Rob chose Chilly Root’s Peonies farm, a gorgeous location high on a bluff overlooking Leif’s hometown, Homer Alaska. The day unfolded seemlessly, the intimate ceremony took place in a ring of flower petals with readings from friends and family members.  Rob and Leif shared personal vowels that brought the guests (and each other) to tears and sealed their union with the strike of a gong.

At cocktail hour the couple was treated to a breathtaking performance of “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You” by Rob’s talented niece.  Guest enjoyed hors d’oeuvres including and fresh shucked oysters along with customized full moon themed cocktails.

At the reception, Rob and Leif’s affinity for good food was in full force.  The tent, decorated with beautiful soft lights and candle lit hanging peonies arrangements created a lovely ambience for the meal.  The wedding party enjoyed course after course of delicious Alaskan inspired dishes and an overflowing dessert buffet.

After dinner DJ Spencer helped get the party started, Rob’s cousin’s performed a high energy flash mob dance that got everyone up on their feet.  Friends and family danced the night away under the Alaskan sky. Guests bid the couple a sparkler farewell… a perfect end to a perfect day.

It was an honor to film this love story.  Many many well wishes to the grooms.  May love and happiness follow them for all their years to come.

Meredith & Griff’s Mountaintop Wedding Day

Meredith & Griff

June 7th, 2017

I’m so excited to share this film!  Meredith and Griff are two of the kindest and most genuine people I have ever met and I find their love inspiring.

I met Meredith years ago when she came up to Alaska to watch the Iditarod with her Mom.  Most visitors who come to Alaska find it moving, even spiritual, but not many people actually MOVE here.  Meredith is the exception.  She’s the kind of woman that makes a decision and follows through.  She has the adventurous nature, strength and bravery to conquer anything she puts her mind to. A girl after my own heart, I am so happy she has found such an incredible partner in Griff.

When I met Griff I was struck by his thoughtfulness, his quite compassion and love and admiration for Meredith.  Plus he can hold his own in a bar fight… what a guy!

When they told me they were going to celebrate becoming Man and Wife by jumping on a chairlift and going up to the top of a mountain I knew this wedding was going to be exceptional!  And boy was I right!  Despite the rain and wind this couple braved the elements (and a rather precarious lift seat) and danced among the peaks in perhaps the most stunning wedding shoot I’ve ever had the chance to capture.

I am so honored I got to capture this day… and I am truly thankful for the friendship of this awesome pair! Meredith and Griff, Congratulations!

Meredith and Griff’s Engagement Film

Griff & Meredith

Sometimes your soulmate ends up in the seat next to you.

Griff and Meredith have the kind of love that inspires me.  During their engagement film shoot I was struck by their humor, playfulness and kindness as a couple as well as great respect for each other.  They are absolutely giddy about getting married! I love their story about how they met and got engaged.  They are a true example of how love finds us in the most unexpected places, often when we aren’t looking.  I can’t wait to shoot their mountain top wedding! Congratulations Meredith and Griff!

River Side Wedding

Jaci & Grant

I had the pleasure of filming this beautiful, heartfelt wedding for Jaci and Grant Blossom.  A truly lovely couple both inside and out, Jaci and Grant exchanged their vows on the bank of a rushing river, beneath a cross made of driftwood, surrounded by family and friends. A truly Alaskan wedding to be sure! (I even spied a couple of guests casting a few lines before the ceremony commenced.) Then came the reception, which was full of thoughtful details and personal touches by the talented and creative bride. This wedding was the epitome of “Alaskan chic” with the perfect mix of outdoor fun, rustic textures and elegant grace and style. Here’s a look at just a few of the amazing moments from Jaci and Grant’s beautiful wedding day!

Halibut Cove Wedding

Ashley & Joe

Ashley and Joe were married in a beautiful seaside wedding.  I was so happy they asked me to capture this incredible day! Halibut Cove is one of a kind.  It’s a small artist community, hidden in a picturesque cove near Homer Alaska. It’s only accessible by boat or sea plane, and the boardwalks, floating homes and docks set against snowcapped mountains made for a stunning backdrop for this amazing event! From the Bride’s stylish blue boots, to the delicious oyster bar cocktail hour this wedding was elegant, unique and full of fun!
